A lock that works without putting me down

Most of us know you're never going to be able to stop a thoughtful, determined, organized thief from stealing your ride. The trick for securing your ride (or anything else precious, for that matter) is to make it a more discouraging target than the next one. Years ago I had a disk lock, which served that purpose. I used it whenever I parked the bike downtown. Until one day (you guessed it), I forgot it was on and down I went. From that point, I only used the steering lock and left it at that. Fast forward to now and my friend's bike got wheeled out of our parking garage at work, where it was parked right next to mine. So I thought, alright, a steering lock can be defeated. Maybe it's time for a disk lock with a lanyard (AKA idiot string) to keep me from falling down again. And then I found this. It works and it's fool proof (well, for this fool, anyway). Yeah, I know that a thief could defeat it by cutting the brake line, but it's red and shiny and presents itself as an engraved invitation for him to move on.
